A fisherman was forced to play doctor when a stingray he caught started to give birth.
Teenager Calvin Conger, from Punta Gorda Isles, Florida, was fishing for sharks with his father and girlfriend near Ponce de Leon Park when he snagged a stingray – but quickly noticed there was something unusual about it.
‘We put it on the filleting table because we were going to use it for bait,’ Calvin told HLN.
We got a closer look at it and there was a stinger hanging out.’
Calvin’s father gently pushed the stingray’s abdomen – and out popped a baby.
Followed by another.
‘It flopped right out – it was weird,’ said Calvin’s girlfriend.
In creating new life, the stingray saved her own because Calvin decided to let the two babies and their mother go free.
‘I can put it on my resume that I helped birth a stingray,’ said Calvin proudly.
